Day 1. Cliffs of Moher – Galway. Upon early arrival at Shannon Airport, you will be met by your driver/guide and escorted to your awaiting motorcoach. This morning you will travel to Ennis and continue to Lahinch. From here you take the coast road to the majestic Cliffs of Moher which rise to a height of 600 ft over the Atlantic Ocean. Your tour continues through the lunar type landscape of the Burren Region and along the shores of Galway Bay before arriving in Galway. Following hotel check in, the remainder of the afternoon is free for a well earned rest. This evening dinner is in your hotel. Overnight: Galway
Day 2. Connemara. This morning you embark on a tour of Connemara. Connemara is made up of mountains, lakelands and boglands. Because of its wild and rugged beauty it has been the location for many films. “The Quiet Man” with John Wayne and Maureen O Hara and in more recent times “The Field” starring Richard Harris to name but two. The scenery is both magical and mystical and is a paradise for both artist and photographer. Your tour today will include a visit to Kylemore Abbey, built in 1866 and since 1920 has been home to the Benedictine Nuns. This evening you will have dinner in your hotel. Overnight: Galway.
Day 3. Galway – Donegal. This morning you depart Galway and travel to Donegal. Your first stop this morning is in Knock in County Mayo. It was here that Our Lady appeared in 1879 and has since become a great place of pilgrimage with thousands of people visiting each year. From here you travel to Sligo immortalized in poetry by W.B. Yeats - one of Ireland’s great poets. You continue the coast road to Bundoran before arriving in Donegal town for a two-night stay. This evening dinner is in your hotel. Overnight: Donegal.
Day 4. Donegal Tour. This morning you depart for a day tour of County Donegal, the most northwesterly county in Ireland. You will travel the coast road to Killybegs - one of Ireland’s biggest fishing ports. You continue to Ardara - centre of the Donegal homespun and knitting industry. From here your tour winds its way around The Blue Stack mountain range and through the scenic Finn Valley before returning through the Barnesmore Gap to Donegal town.
This evening you are free for dinner. Overnight: Donegal.
Day 5. Donegal – Westport. This morning once again you pack your bags and begin to head south. You will take the coast road to Ballina and continue to Foxford. The development of Foxford owes much to The Sisters of Charity who established a convent there in 1891 and especially to Mother Morrogh-Bernard for starting the famous Foxford Woollen Mills a year later. Here you will visit The Foxford Woollen Mills Visitor Centre, which provides an opportunity to appreciate how this great industrialist realised her dream. From here you continue to Westport. Tonight dinner is in your hotel. Overnight: Westport.
Day 6. Achill Island. This morning you set out on a full day tour of County Mayo and experience some of the most spectacular scenery on the west coast of Ireland. You travel around The Nephin Beg mountain range passing through Pontoon, Ballina, Crossmolina to Bangor Erris for your first stop. You take the coast road to Mulranny before continuing to Achill Island where you will experience some breathtaking coastline of the famous Atlantic Drive. You will also have a stop on Achill Island for lunch before returning to Westport. This evening you will have dinner in your hotel Overnight: Westport
Day 7. Westport – Cong - Bunratty. This morning you depart Westport and travel to Cong which was one of the main locations for the Quiet Man film. In Cong you will see a 14C cross and the ruins of Cong Abbey founded in 1128. Your journey continues along the banks of Lough Corrib the largest lake in Ireland to Bunratty. After ckecking into your hotel, the remainder of the afternoon is free to enjoy a drink in Durty Nellies – Ireland’s oldest pub or do some last minute shopping in The Bunratty Village Mills. This evening you will enjoy some home cooked food, excellent wine and best of Irish music and stories at the Corn Barn Ceili in The Bunratty Folk Park. Overnight: Bunratty.
Day 8. Depart Shannon.
This morning sadly you bid farewell to Ireland. You travel a short distance (approximately 20 minutes) to Shannon Airport for your flight home.
